Downend Cadets Celebrate Armed Forces at Avonmere Care Home
On Armed Forces Day, Saturday 30 June 18, 2152 (Downend) Detached Flight were honoured to be invited to attend Avonmere Care Home’s Armed Forces Day Celebrations.
The cadets demonstrated foot drill, banner drill and continuity drill for the residents. They then joined them for cups of tea and got the chance to talk to them about their experiences during World War 1 and World War 2 and the service that some of them have given to our Armed Forces. Some of the residents were over 100 years old and had some fantastic stories to tell including one lady who met her husband when his plane crashed in her family’s field during World War 2 and they went out to rescue him.
The cadets did themselves proud and it was an honour to give back to the local community in this way on Armed Forces Day and we hope to be able to go back next year.
