Staff & Cadets Recognised by Lord Lieutenant of Gloucestershire

October 18, 2018 by Wing Media Communication Officer

Last week Wing Commander Cox, Officer Commanding Bristol & Gloucestershire Wing, accompanied three of our people to receive awards from the Lord Lieutenant of Gloucestershire, Dame Janet Trotter OBE DBE CVO.

Her Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant’s Awards are only one step below national honours and as such should be highly valued.

The following from the Wing received these awards:

Cadet Sergeant Katie Forbes, 2342 (Innsworth) Squadron - Investiture of Her Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant’s Cadet

Each year the top cadets in the county are recommended to the Lord Lieutenant for their approval.

Cadets, following their investiture, accompany and assist the Lord Lieutenant on various occasions, including Royal visits and civic ceremonies acting as aide-de-camp to the Lord Lieutenant.

Cadets selected for investiture as Lord Lieutenant’s Cadets therefore become ambassadors for their unit and service. Additionally they have opportunities to become involved in special occasions within the community, which are not available to others.

Cadet Sergeant Emma Gooch, 2342 (Innsworth) Squadron - Honourable Company of Gloucestershire’s Community Cadet

The Honourable Company of Gloucestershire encourages excellence in the community and annually recognises sustained outstanding efforts by the presentation of four awards: one award to the army, sea & air cadet unit for making significant contribution to their local community, and a further award is presented to the indvidual cadet who has made the greatest community contribution.

Flight Sergeant Edward Peter Smart, 1329 (Tetbury) Detached Flight - Her Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant’s Certificate for Meritorious Service

Her Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant is the Queen’s representative in the county. The award of the Lord Lieutenant’s Certificate for Meritorious Service recognises those amongst the reserve forces and cadet community whose performance in service is exceptional rather than than the norm.

The award is used to reward long service of high quality, periods of intense and exceptional output in support of units and to recognise service to the community.

In all cases, recipients must be seen amongst their peers and within the community in which they both live and serve, to show outstanding examples of leadership, commitment and enduring performance in their post.
